So I wanted to write a bit about my results and do a GIVE-A-WAY to thank you guys for reading my blog during my 21-Day Sugar Detox Journey! Make sure to read all the way to the bottom AND enter the give-a-way!
Lost 6 lbs. which was a nice thing
Can now drink coffee straight up black and LIKE IT!
kicked diet soda to the curb
learned to like a lot of awesome snacks such as: macadamia nuts, almonds, green apples, and sauerkraut A LOT!
Am in love with Kombucha now
Really broke my addiction to sugar now, I don’t crave it at all.
Learned that sugar makes me bloat up and screws with my blood sugar
I really am more focused on Paleo eating/living and this helped me to get back on track.
I CAN’T WAIT TO EAT A FREAKING SWEET POTATO! I missed those things like nothing else, I wanted one A LOT on the 21-day journey and I missed them and now I can’t wait to have one. But instead tonight I am going to eat some beets and carrots. Maybe I kicked my sweet potato addiction too.
Some of the days sucked, like sucked real bad with mood swings and headaches. I still am glad I did it.
The GIVE-A-WAY is….
Some of Nikki’s Coconut Butter! I have been eyeing this stuff since I saw it on PaleOMG’s blog. I have found a love for a spoon full of coconut butter when I got a craving for sugar, or I would add a little cinnamon to warmed up coconut butter and drizzle on green apples for an extra “sweet” treat. So I thought this coconut butter looked to darn delicious to not try myself after this detox so I thought I would share some with one of you lucky readers too! Enter, tell your friends to enter, and see details below!!!
I am all done with my Sugar detox now and only cheated a bit the last day as I was at a friends wedding and out of town. BUT to my defense my cheating consisted of a gluten free muffin at a local coffee shop in Charlottesville, VA, not wedding cake or non-paleo foods. But I did have a lovely 4 course Tapas Meal and could eat a great deal of it from a salad with beets, to braised short ribs, acorn squash (which I have never had and now LOVE), bacon wrapped dates (also extremely delicious!), and they had some sliced GREEN apples and cut up veggies I ate too. Oh and I had one glass of Cabernet Franc red wine, so I cheated twice, on the last day. I will write in my GIVE-A-WAY post about my results from the Detox and all that I have learned about myself, my body and SUGAR. Thanks for reading about my journey!
I survived Halloween Sugar Free! My Sauerkraut is finally ready to consume, it turned out okay but I will be using a little different recipe for next batch. I got a Kombucha scoby in the mail but need to acutally make the stuff! I am going to a wedding tomorrow but it is at a super cool restaurant called, The Local, well I have never been there but it looks cool! I am very excited to see my dear friend Meg get married to a wonderful guy! Below are some of the meals I have had over the last few days. I can’t believe this 21-day Sugar Detox is over in 2 more days, time flew by! I am not going to lie I can’t wait to eat a sweet potato, I almost crave nothing else anymore, only a sweet potato….
I plan to put together a Recipe Post with all the new things I made over the 21-days and also remember stay tuned for the GIVE-A-WAY on my Last day of the detox!!! Tell all your friends:)
lamb burgers with dill and cauliflower mash
stuffed peppers with beef
and of course EGGS and Bacon!
bison burgers and brussel sprouts
sausages and saurerkraut
snacks – green apple and almond butter, macadamia nuts and kombucha
Wow, I am sorry for putting three days into one but Sandy kind of threw me off. I kept thinking we would lose power and then we never did luckily. My poor parents don’t have power in NJ and they have no idea when it will get restored. I sent my thoughts and prayers out to the people who have suffered from this horrible storm. I hope that everyone can get power and stay warm soon!
I have been cruising through the 21-day sugar detox and can’t believe I am almost done! Today is Halloween and there is so much candy in the house that I nanny at, but I couldn’t even imagine eating any right now. Even green apples are sweet to me now, and I apparently now like BEETS, which I never liked before, so I must think the detox for that.
So I can’t remember each meal over the last few days but some highlights were:
Bison Meatballs with Homemade Tomato Cream Sauce (Coconut cream) over Zucchini Pasta, one of my new favorites!
Mahi Mahi sautéed in coconut oil
LEFTOVERS! I love Paleo because it has given me a new-found love for leftover foods.
I stuck with my staples for breakfast of bacon, turkey bacon, scrambled egg creations, and of course my addition of pumpkin pancakes. I also drank a ridiculous amount of green tea during the storm. My fiancé loves green tea. Like he may as well be a connoisseur of Green Tea!
Only 5 more days of the detox! I will reveal my results and reflections on the detox at that time. I also plan to do a GIVE-A-WAY when I complete the detox so stay tuned for an awesome chance to win!

Well we have a Tropical Storm headed towards us right now, and of course the first thing I thought about when I heard about it was WHAT THE HECK WILL I EAT IF THE POWER GOES OUT FOR TOO LONG! So I got to thinking and have a plan of beef jerky, canned wild caught fish, some pumpkin muffins (no sugars) I made, lots of cut up veggies and if we have to we can roast some sausages over the fire.
Breakfast: Pumpkin Pancakes and Turkey Bacon
Lunch: Lamb Sliders and Heirloom Tomato and Bell Pepper Salad
Dinner: Italian Beef sliders with Tomato Sauce and Pesto and my yummy red cabbage (I’ll share the super easy recipe soon)
Breakfast – Eggs with garlic, tomatoes and mushrooms
2 green tip bananas
5 Tbsp pumpkin
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 C almond flour
1/4 C coconut flour
2 free range eggs
1.5 C cashews
A few tabs of olive oil
A handful of pepitas and a little shredded coconut
1. Heat your oven to 375 Degrees
2. Put your cashews in the food processor and start it up! After it is all ground add in your olive oil. What I do is just start pouring slowly while it is still spinning. Once it starts to get wet I let it run for a minute to see how it is forming. You want it to be slightly creamy.
3. Add in your bananas and mix more.
4. Add in the pumpkin, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, eggs, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and mix again.
5. Then add the coconut flour and almond flour, and mix one last time. I love how the food processor makes this so easy.
6. Coat a muffin tin with coconut oil or use liners.
7. Put in the oven and cook for 8 minutes, take out and put the pepitas and coconut on, and press into the muffins. Put back into oven for about 4-6 minutes, it really depends on the oven.
8. Take out and ENJOY these yummy sweetener free muffins!
Okay so I am sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of days, things have been going good with the 21-Day Sugar Detox but I have just been busy with school work and work. I am going to school to get my Masters in Computer Information Systems and I’m learning programming right now, which is pretty cool to think I could learn how to make an App soon but it’s a bit of a change for me so I gotta get my study on and start thinking like a computer! So this Hurricane Sandy is supposed to possibly hit us at the end of the weekend/early next week and the first thing I thought about was FOOD…how am I going to stick to this detox with no power…should be entertaining. I am thinking we might be roasting sausages over the fireplace, or eating lots of raw veggies. I am not sure I will be going to stock up too much in the freezer/refridge tomorrow at our weekly shop.
Oh so I am super excited I ordered a Kombucha Scoby so I can start making our own Kombucha! it will save a ton of money and I really hope I am successful with this. I love GT’s Gingerade and Green Kombucha’s so I am hoping to mimic them somewhat. My sauerkraut looks good so far, I will be tasting it today but no weird things on top at all, the veggies have stayed below the water line the whole time. Next batch of sauerkraut I am making Lithuanian style with caraway seeds, dill and garlic.
I am not sure I can remember what I ate the last few days…but here is my best recollection:
Breakfast: Pumpkin Pancakes and turkey bacon (yeah I am darn obsessed with those pancakes, seriously I love them, thank you Diane2 for creating this recipe!)
Lunch: 2 sausages and sauerkraut (I think I might be addicted to sauerkraut, good thing I am making homemade ones now)
Dinner: Beef Meatballs with Onions and a side of Brussels sprouts
Snacks: macadamia nuts (never knew I liked these so much!) and I skipped the apple today and just ate a spoon of coconut butter (that stuff is sooo yummy)
Breakfast: Pumpkin Pancakes again (okay I am obsessed)
Lunch: sausages and sauerkraut (it’s fast and easy!)
Dinner: Grilled chicken salad with hot sauce (went out to this place called Kraze Burger with Edgar because I was too tired to cook and I didn’t even cheat!)
Yesterday was a very busy day and I did not get to writing until this morning. I did not feel that great yesterday, I think some was due to stress from various sources, some is probably because the child I nanny for has not been feeling so hot, but I think some might be from either Candida or Carb Flu! My stomach was all messed up last night and I have had a headache now for two days. Guess I was more addicted to sugar and carbs that I thought. Just glad to be doing this detox to attempt to get back to a less addicted and normal state. Hopefully I will start to feel better soon!
Yesterday I went to the library with the kid I nanny for and I decided to grab some books on canning, raw food, and seasonal foods to read up on.
I also made some homemade sauerkraut yesterday and today I made homemade almond butter! These were actually pretty easy to make and hopefully we will be a nice and cheaper addition!
My meals consisted of:
Breakfast – pumpkin pancakes and two slices of turkey bacon
Lunch – 2 chicken sausages, sauerkraut, and assorted pepper slices (and yes that is on an Avenger’s plate, I nanny for a 4-year-old!)
Snacks – small apple with almond butter, small handful of almonds/macadamia nuts
Drinks – 2 cups of green tea, 1 Americano, lots of water and a Kombucha
Dinner – Bison meatballs with parsley and zucchini with onions
Now for another day!
